I have had one of these for several years now, and it should be "broken in", but it is just as stiff now as when I received it. I did everything the directions said. I hand washed it and I oiled the seal, but it is still a pain to put together and is difficult to move the plunger smoothly when assembled. I don't know what is different about the one AB uses, but mine is useless. About the same time that Santa brought me this (and a 1 cup) I found a KitchenArt Pro 2 Cup Adjust-A-Cup on sale at BB&B. I hate having to use plastic wrap in my dry measures for sticky ingredients like ketchup or peanut butter, and rubber spatulas don't always get the ingredients out well. These measuring cups are a great solution. The plunger scrapes the inside of the cup clean as it pushes the ingredients out, meaning more of the sticky ingredients actually make it into the recipe. I did not use it much until a couple of years ago when I got back into frequent baking. I started using it even more when I saw Alton using his. It is stiff to move (I use a wooden spoon to push it down to measure) but it does shove sticky molasses, honey and peanut butter cleanly out. I really like it for shortening. It is easy to clean and another reviewer mentioned the best way to put it back together - start at a slight angle and twist. In fact, twisting any time to move it helps. I did stop putting it in the dishwasher when I noticed the markings fading.I have serious arthritis in my hands so I am looking to try other models that might work easier. I also have one from Pampered Chef that a friend gave me a few months ago. I haven't used it much yet but it slides just as hard. As one reviewer pointed out - you do not want it to leak. The PC model markings seem to be more durable. |
