They're both very sturdy, built to high quality standards and they do what they were meant to very well. It's the absolute truth that these things hold in heat or cold for quite a while. With the tumbler for example, I poured coffee into it at 7:30am and it was still pretty warm well into the afternoon. The leak proof cover is a big plus as well. As for the food jar, same deal. I stuffed it with a good amount of hot stew and it was about as hot as it was coming out as it was going in, hours after the fact. The food jar is very secure and there's practically zero chance that you'll suffer any spillage. I love the collapsible spoon also and how it neatly fits into the inner cap. Last but not least, the dark blue finish is very easy on the eyes and eye catching as well. Don't be surprised if anyone stops you to ask where you got them from. My husband works in a commercial freezer, so having a warm meal on break and coffee to go with it is something he needs. The soup after 5-6 hours is still hot (sometimes too hot), and the coffee is still warm after 12+ hours. (Seriously! My husband works the night shift, so I make his coffee as a single pot when we get up, so when he's drinking it, it's usually 12 hours later.) Just don't fill the thermos beyond the metal ring inside-it will leak if you do. I don't do any special "preheating", just make the coffee in a regular coffee pot, and heat the soup etc in the microwave for 2 minutes (from can) or 3-4 minute (if something from refrigerator) then put it in the containers.
